A proper long rifle is very lively compared to the heavy Hawkin style rifles. Even a 42 inch barrel handles very nicely if it is swamped( tapered and flared). A long straight barrel will feel very heavy and slow to get on target when hunting after you are used to a swamped barrel and the contour really adds to the look of the long rifle.
